This is about me and my life. The guys who behind
sit the screen typing this whole article alone in the late night while the
rest of the universe still in their bed, hugging their favorite pillow, having
a sweet dream and so on. Well it just that I cannot close my eyes for the
night. Yet!
First, let me
introduce myself, I am a typical young boy that similar like the rest of the
other boy’s population in the world. I am young, dumb and broke. I used to have
a dream when I was in younger age, but, the more and more I continue my life
journey, follow the stream of the life cycle, then I realize that my dream is
washing away. It’s faded along with the little kid that used to have a big
dream. Okay, by the way, my name is Tengku. But you can call me teng. It is sound
like a TANK, but the spelling is TENG okay. Most of the people read my nickname
will sound other than TANK.
Alright, enough on
the introduction about my name. It’s quite a lot of my name isn’t it on the second
paragraph. Hehe. I’m sorry about that. It’s just a lot of people confusing on
that particular word. Let me continue from where I stop just now. Our life is changing,
moving rapidly along with the new technology, new philosophy, new friends, new
environment and a lot of new thing that we are going to surprise us one day. But,
do you used to think, what is happening with my dream when I was a little kid. There
are some people who loves the space and would like to be an astronaut, there
are also the other people who feels charming when they in a uniform and sculpt
in their heart to be a police office, fire fighter or a soldier. Do you guys
even miss all that sweet memories, where there is nothing to think other than
your own imagination. You guys don’t have to think about the money, women, car,
house, expenses and LIFE!
I am 21 years
old in 2018 and for the whole time being in my life, 2018 is the year that make
me realize what is really happening with our society. What will happen to our
future children, grandchildren and all of our descendant? Are they going to
live a life that I used to live, or better or could be worst? School. There is
nothing obsolete this thing from our mind. We knew this place! This is the
place I used to get bullied, the place of my first love, the place that I love
to attend. A lot of answer we could get when we talk about this place. But, do
you realize that the school education system that make us less intelligence
nowadays? Makes us feels regret for not studying properly. Make us feels
horrible when we spend more time on our passion, on our hobbies? Did all of
this ever happen to you? If all of this incident used to show up in your life,
we might have the same thinking now.
Do you know that
our education system was created on the 90’s? It was created to prepare for the
future of the industrial sector which is overgrown nowadays. But, the school
still use the same system to teach the alpha, beta gen the same topic with the
same way they taught us before. Do we live in a modern day or the Stone Age?
“Student, please
raise your hand if you not understand what I’m explaining okay?”
Familiar with this sentence? Yes! They
use exactly the same sentence on us about 10-20 years ago. They put us in a
row, nice and neat sitting in the class learn something that maybe not meets our
interest. They taught us history, math, physics, chemistry. Make us willingly
to force ourselves to accept all the information that we are going to use for
one purpose only. Examination! Yeah that’s right. Most of us is learn and study
just for one purpose. For an “A” grade in the subjects we take in during our
school era.
“These tests are too crude to be used and should be abandoned,”
Frederick J.Kelly, the man who invented standardized testing said this thing. How
possibly we can continue this malpractice system for the next generation? What will
happen to the children in the future? Maybe for now they are only 20% of our
population, but they are our 100% of our future.
I keep thinking, wondering, asking a
lot of question that leaves me hanging with zero possibility to get the answer.
I don’t even know how they manage to keep up teaching the same thing with the
same way repeated year by year continuously. Didn’t they realize that they are killing
these student creativity, passion, hobbies and interest? Why there is no school
for these particular thing? Why there is
no one suggest to open the school for creativity, for their passion, interest. Do
the examination is necessary to know that the student is brilliant or dumb? What
can be archive through an examination? The ability of memorizing in short term
range? Is that the goal? If you ask the scientist they will say that no two
brain is the same. No one is same. Everyone is unique in their own way. They are
smart in their own way. They think differently. Just think about it!
Albert Einstein once said,
“If you judge a fish with his
ability to climb a tree, you will make the fish believe that he is stupid for
the rest of his life”.
